Hard OLED vs Soft OLED: what's the difference, and which one is better?

In the phone aftermarket, there are many quality options for the LCD assembly of the iPhone X series, among which OLED is the most popular and stable quality in the aftermarket.

What is OLED

OLED has neither a backlight nor a liquid crystal layer. The diode of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) can emit light by itself, and its luminous intensity is proportional to t4he current intensity. Therefore, as long as the control current of each sub-pixel is controlled, It can control the ratio of the three primary colors to modulate various colors.

How to distinguish soft and hard OLED

OLED is divided into soft OLED and hard OLED, how can I distinguish them? Which quality is more suitable for me? TX Electronics will answer you one by one in this article.

  1. The hard OLED screen is explosive, a little squeeze will cause the screen to explode or appear black screen, abnormal display, screen jumping and other functional phenomena.
  2. The hard OLED shows that the pigment is not correct, and there will be white spots and white patches and red and blue edges.
  3. The displayed AA area does not reach 5.8 inches, but the actual displayed AA area is only 5.6 inches, and the four black borders are not all large and small.
  4. The thickness of the assembly is thick, and the installation is easy to squeeze the screen or have poor functionality.
  5. The hard OLED is made of glass and is heavy, while the flexible screen is made of thin film.
  6. Hard OLED quality will be cheaper.

  1. The flexible screen does not have broken screen, uneven picture color and other functional defects.
  2. The display AA area fully reaches the 58-inch display screen.
  3. The flexible screen is thin and light in weight.
  4. Soft OLED quality will be more expensive than hard OLED.

Hard OLED sells well in repair aftermarket

However, due to the very high cost price of Soft OLED, it has gradually withdrawn from the phone aftermarket.

At present, the quality existing in the repair aftermarket market is mostly Hard OLED, collectively referred to as OLED.

With the development of manufacturers' technology and the use of advanced equipment, the quality of Hard OLED has become more and more stable.

It not so easy to be damaged and become one of the best-selling qualities in the repair market.

It is cheaper than the original, and the quality is stable.

Aftermarket OLED Screens

TX Electronics has selected the quality of several popular OLEDs on the phone aftermarket to analyze them.

GX Best colour rendering, only red is slightly brighter than OEM
FLYCDI Good colour rendering, only red is slightly brighter than OEM
HEX Good colours rendering. Almost identical to OEM. Only problem was that 40% of the 200 screens we tested here, had noise in the image.
TianMa Colours are too bright compared to OEM. The red and blue in particular hurt my eyes.
